Not so subtle
My boyfriend just gave me a gym membership for my birthday. Should I be offended?
I understand why it's hard not to be offended, but don't be. Your question implies you could lean either way, so choose to believe your guy gave with good intentions.
You should be grateful - gym memberships are so daggone expensive. I wish someone would offer a free membership to me! I also believe your guy had good intentions.
